MOTHER AND SON INDICTED FOR BREAKING AND ENTERING

July 27, 2018

A Delaware County Grand Jury has returned an indictment against 44-year-old Katie L. Hayes of Westerville and 24-year-old William R. Hayes of Columbus.

Charges come after the Loss Prevention Office at the Columbus Pike Walmart called police to report a theft on January 25, 2018.

“Security footage shows a white Ford Escape pulling up to an outdoor shed area along the north side of the store around 6 am,” said Delaware County Prosecutor Carol O’Brien. “A man and a woman can be seen working together to remove nearly 50 used car batteries after cutting through a padlock.”

The mother and son duo are each charged with one count of breaking and entering – a fifth-degree felony, one count of possessing criminal tools – also a fifth-degree felony, and one count of theft – a first-degree misdemeanor.

Arraignment dates for Katie and William Hayes are not yet set.
