FATAL CRASH RESULTS IN INDICTMENT

January 11, 2019 – A Delaware County Grand Jury has returned an indictment against 29-year-old Candace M. Cooper of Marysville.

Charges come after a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of State Route 4 and Hoskins Road on the morning of November 3, 2018.

On scene troopers observed a White GMC pickup truck off the left side of the road. It had sustained heavy front-end damage. The other vehicle involved, a tan Toyota Camry, had visible damage to the left front.

“The driver of the truck was treated and released at the scene while the driver and passenger in the car were transported to the Union County Hospital and then flown to the OSU Hospital,” said Delaware County Prosecutor Carol O’Brien. “Sadly, the 28-year-old female passenger passed away from her injuries.”

Witnesses report the Camry failed to stop at a stop sign. The driver of the Camry, Candace Cooper, is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide – a second-degree felony, and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs – a first-degree misdemeanor.

“The at-fault driver showed signs of impairment,” O’Brien said. “Law enforcement observed Ms. Cooper to have slow speech and glassy, bloodshot eyes.”

An arraignment date for Cooper is not yet set.
