POLARIS MALL SHOOTER FOUND GUILTY OF FELONIOUS ASSAULT

September 17, 2021 – Levon Sommerville was found guilty of felonious assault with a gun specification and other charges after a bench trial for his part in a March 3, 2021 shooting at Polaris Fashion Place in Delaware County. A sentencing hearing is set for October 18.

“I applaud the work of the Columbus Police Department and our Delaware County law enforcement partners who ran towards danger to protect our community on March 3rd,” said Delaware County Prosecutor Melissa Schiffel. “Because of the fearless and swift actions of law enforcement, no one was hurt, but this doesn’t excuse the lawless actions of Mr. Sommerville. Bottom line, if you illegally possess a gun in Delaware County and endanger the lives of citizens, you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

The October 18th sentencing will be at 11 a.m. Sommerville faces a possible 2-11 years in prison with an additional 3 years mandatory for the firearm specification. In addition to felonious assault, Sommerville was found guilty of having a weapon while under disability, and inducing panic.
