JURY FINDS DELAWARE WOMAN GUILTY OF FAILURE TO STOP AFTER AN ACCIDENT

 

On December 7, 2023, after a 3 day jury trial, Delaware County jurors found 41-year-old Jayla Sims, of Delaware, guilty for failure to stop after an accident, a felony of the fifth degree. The jury additionally found that the accident caused serious physical harm to a person.

 

The Delaware Police Department were called to investigate a male pedestrian who investigators believed was struck by a motor vehicle in the 100 block of East William Street  on November 23, 2022. The male pedestrian sustained severe injuries after being struck, and the motor vehicle fled the scene. The Delaware Police Department’s investigation determined 41-year-old Jayla Sims of Delaware  to be the driver of the motor vehicle that fled the scene.

 

“Our community is safe because of dedicated police officers like those who undertook this difficult investigation,” Delaware County Prosecutor Melissa Schiffel said. “Thank you to our officers and our assistant prosecutors Dan Cogley and Anujanaa Baskaranathan for fighting for justice in this case.”

 

A sentencing hearing for Jayla Sims is set for Tuesday, January 19, 2024 at 1:00 PM.
