August 22, 2025 – Following a three day trial, a Delaware County Jury found Zamere Pegues, a 24-year-old Delaware man, guilty of Aggravated Vehicular Assault (a felony of the third degree), Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence (a misdemeanor of the first degree), and Vehicular Assault (a felony of the fourth degree). A sentencing hearing is scheduled before Delaware County Common Pleas Court Judge Marianne T. Hemmeter for September 23rd at 4:00pm.
In September of 2024, Pegues was observed by an officer driving at a high rate of speed on S. Sandusky Street. He ran a red light and drove with a blinker on before crashing into another car that was stopped at a red light at the intersection of S. Sandusky and U.S. 23. The crash caused the driver of the other car to be severely injured. A subsequent investigation by law enforcement led officers to believe Pegues was driving under the influence.
This case was investigated by Delaware City Police Department and Ohio State Highway Patrol and prosecuted by Assistant Prosecutors Laura Kent and Alicia Harris.
