On July 8, 2025, Alfredo Salinas-Rosas, a 25-year-old Columbus man, pleaded guilty to 1 count of Aggravated Arson (a felony of the second degree), 3 counts of Felonious Assault, (also felonies of the second degree), and 1 count of Trespass in a Habitation (a felony of the fourth degree).  A sentencing hearing was held August 18, 2025, and Delaware County Common Pleas Court Judge James P. Schuck sentenced Salinas-Rosas to 12-14.5 years in prison.

In December of 2024, Salinas-Rosas’s girlfriend ended her relationship with him. In response, Salinas-Rosas drove to her family’s residence, doused the front door in gasoline, and set it on fire. Luckily, a family member was able to extinguish the fire before it spread to the interior of the home. Salinas-Rosas left that residence and drove to another residence where his ex-girlfriend had previously stayed. There he trespassed inside the home in the middle of the night. The next day, Salinas-Rosas drove to his ex-girlfriend’s place of employment and waited outside for her. When his ex-girlfriend began driving home, Salinas-Rosas rammed his vehicle into her vehicle multiple times disabling it.

“In Delaware County, we are proud to seek prison sentences for domestic abusers and violent criminals like Mr. Salinas-Rosas. Prison is necessary to protect the public so that there is no “next” victim for abusers like Salinas-Rosas.” Delaware County Prosecutor Melissa Schiffel said.

This case was investigated by the Columbus Fire Department Arson Investigator Schmitt, Columbus Police Department Detective Carney, and Westerville Police Department Detective Leighty.
